Finding your next home is most often a tactile experience, i.e. you will want to visit most homes to ‘try it on for size’. In normal times this is easily achieved by setting up a showing or going to an Open House. Alas we no longer live in normal times and until the Corona virus scare is over you will have to be a little more creative.
Here are some suggestions for you:
1. Forget About Open Houses
Your families health is paramount. Most industry advisories are stating a complete moratorium until further notice.
2. Look for the BEST Quality Photos You Can
Try to focus on homes that offer you professional photos. This will allow to you to select only the most suitable homes without having to visit.
3. Look for a Virtual Tour / 3 D photos
Virtual tours and 3 D photos are a great method to look around a home quickly. Some have floor plans too.
4. Insist on an Appointment
Ask your REALTOR® to set up a time that does not conflict with someone else’s showing. That way you can sure to ‘social distance’ yourself as much as possible.
5. Do Not Touch Pets
If you see a friendly cat or dog living in the home it’s only natural for you to want to touch. If the pet’s fur is contaminated, those bugs could transfer to you. We suggest you ask home sellers to remove their animals from the home or lock them up in their crate.
6. Bring Sanitizer and Gloves with You
Clean your hands after each showing by using the product made available by the home seller or bring your own in the car.
7. Go in Separate Cars
Don’t share space with your REALTOR®. Practice ‘social distancing’. You drive in your car. Let your REALTOR® drive theirs.
8. Leave the Home as You Found It
See and enjoy all that the home has to offer, but at the same time keep your ‘hands off’. Ask the seller to on all the lights etc. before you get there. Leave them all on when you leave.
9. Focus on Vacant Homes
Ask your REALTOR® to focus vacant homes. They are easy to visit and perhaps safer. In some cases, the seller might also be under some pressure to sell, in which case you can ask your REALTOR® to negotiate a BIG discount.
