For some REALTORS® the idea of being on a team is counter intuitive. One of the reasons many folks decide to be REALTORS® is to become the masters of their own destiny. However, there are some good reasons to consider a more collaborative approach to your REALTOR® journey.

Let’s look at the cons and then the pros:

Cons

1. You may be expected to attend regular meetings to share your progress and to build a sense of community.

2. Your contribution costs to the team may be higher than if you were to ‘go it alone,’ but the number of transactions and your actual income, will exceed what you could achieve alone.

3. From time to time, you may be asked to cover and support your fellow team members. They will do the same for you when you want time off.

Pros

1. Many REALTORS® enjoy the sense of community, the spirit of cooperation and sharing goals and experiences in a team.

2. The costs and effort of creating lead generation is pooled with others and is therefore more effective and cost efficient. You get more for lower costs.

3. Your income will be more stable when compared to the roller coaster many individual REALTORS® experience if they ‘go it alone’.

There are of course many more pros and cons. However, I have heard that due to consumers demands for a higher level of service, teams is one of the fastest growing areas of real estate.

Here’s a nice quote from Sean C. Sean is now an established member of the local real estate community.

“If I had to do it over again, I would have joined a team right off the bat, but didn't really know the benefits”
